MS Awareness Night At Chase Field 8/20/2010

On Friday, August 20th, 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in their 3rd MS Awareness Night at Chase Field during a Arizona Diamondbacks game. A portion of every ticket sold went to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. We set up a booth with the MS Society to promote the upcoming MS Walk in November. We passed out walk flyers and mingled with the crowds during the game. It was a great night and we ran into a lot of familiar faces we've met at other local events.

AZ Diamondbacks 80's Night 7/10/2010

On Saturday, July 10th, 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters made their second appearance at the annual 80's night at Chase Field during an Arizona Diamondback's game. Several members of our team appeared in other 80's costumes. Neal was Indiana Jones, Phil T was Shortround, Christina and Kelli were Jem and the Holograms, and Chuck was Marty McFly. A friend of the team came as the Gatekeeper. Members of the local 501st legion were also on hand as well as the local Mr. T impersonator and Voltron. Before and during the game our groups interacted with the crowd and participated in many of the activities between innings like the t-shirt toss. Directly before the game started the Ecto-AZ, the A-Team van, General Lee, Roscoe Sherriff car, and Delorean did a lap around the baseball diamond. It was a great night and we can't till next years game. I'm happy to report our Diamondbacks did win against the Marlins.

Phoenix ComiCon 2010

On Memorial Day weekend 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters made their fifth appearance at the annual Phoenix ComiCon. Friday started with the Zombie panel on the spread of zombies in pop culture. This was a packed panel with alot of great discussion on the zombie fad. Later in the afternoon was the first of our daily Zombie Brain Eating Contests. These were alot of fun and the 2nd year they were held. This time there was a kids round, a shooter round, and three adult rounds. People entered the adult round by winning some really hard zombie trivia. The brains are made from peach jello and condensed milk. Reviews on the flavor are mixed. At this we were the judges.

Friday evening was the Zombie Walk and Zombie Beauty Pageant. Both went great. We had a police escort for the zombie walk so were able to lead the walk with the Ecto running full lights and sirens. We handed out zombie survival pamphlets to passers-by with the zombies behind us. The pageant was awesome as well. We handed out twinkies and marshmallows during an intermission with the above mentioned Ghostbusters theme sing along. We also acted as chaperones or wranglers for the contestants.

Throughout the weekend we held our hourly raffles for various Ghostbusters prizes and had a basket for silent auction. We played GB tunes out the sound system we set up and had a TV with a slideshow and our various TV interviews and appearances playing. We handed out info pamphlets, posters, our sugar-free ghost candy, buttons, Cystic Fibrosis info, coloring sheets, sold Twinkies and Marshmallows for donations, and had people posing like crazy with Vigo. Through the weekend we held a Slime Scavenger Hunt for kids. At select booths we put slime in a petri dish and gave the kids clues. When they brought back a sample we gave them marshmallows and a raffle ticket. Sunday morning we did a TV interview for our local Channel 3 and was able to keep the Ecto parked out front. We also held a Ghostbusters Trivia Contest Panel. We did several rounds for prizes and picked contestants by giving them the Zener ESP card test.

It was an awesome weekend and the con was much bigger than last year. Last year we had 5000 attendees. This year we had over 13,000 attendees. We made alot of contacts and met the most kids we've ever seen in Ghostbuster costumes. We can't wait for next year.

This was the first time the Ecto has been on display there and also it's first time inside a hall. 1st Friday Artwalk MDA Fundraiser Booth 3/5/2010

On Friday March 5th, 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters hosted a fundraising booth for the upcoming Muscular Dystrophy Assocation (Jerry's Kids) Stride and Ride we're participating in on March 27th. This was done by selling shamrocks for photos with our team. Our booth was at the monthly 1st Friday Art Walk in downtown Phoenix.

Later in the evening Haley and her family stopped by in uniform to hang out with us for awhile before they leave town. Chuck loaned her his RGB pack for the evening. I believe she posed for more photos than we did. The local comic con was having a promotional cosplay event down the street so we were frequented by many other costumers throughout the evening. Kate Flannery, star of "The Office" as Meridith Palmer, stopped by to say hello as well.

The Art Walk is one of our favorite and regular events. We have definitely become a mainstay at it. It was a blast as always. We raised just under $200 for the MDA.

Phoenix Heart Walk 2/27/2010

On Saturday, February 27, 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in their 3rd Phoenix Heart Walk for the American Heart Association. The Heart Walk is one of the biggest charity walks in the Phoenix in terms of attendance. The walk is 4 miles around Tempe Town Lake near the ASU campus. We had 6 busters and 4 walkers on our team. There was rain in the forecast for a change but luckily it passed and the weather turned out perfect for a walk. We had a great response from our fellow walkers and encountered a record number of children recognizing Ghostbusters which is always a good sign. As always we can't wait till next years walk.

At the end of the walk we were paid a special visit by Amanda and her daughter Haley. It was an honor to meet Haley and her mom. Haley is one of the biggest little fans out there and really knows her stuff. They are in town visiting family and got in touch to stop by the walk to meet us. As a surprise for Haley, we gave her the first of our new raffle items we plan to use, which is a Tootsie-Roll style "Portable Containment Unit" bank made by a friend of ours. The future of Ghostbusters is in safe hands for sure.

Children's Cancer Network Fashion Show 2/21/2010

On Sunday, February 21, 2010, the Arizona Ghostbusters made their second appearance at the annual Children's Cancer Network Fashion Show held at the Biltmore Resort. The fashion show has been an annual fundraising event for the Children's Cancer Network first formed several years ago. Children that have aided by the Network throughout their battle with Cancer are models in the show with clothes donated by the local major stores. Various auctions and raffles along with the cost of lunch at the event all go towards the organization. Our team donated a Ghostbusters themed basket that went for $115 in the auction. Besides donating the basket, we also handed out our custom event buttons, posed for pics, and oversaw the auctions and raffle tickets. The event was a huge success. We can't wait till our next event with the Children's Cancer Network. The strength these children have shown is both inspirational and humbling. These children have gone through more than many of us, but they're still kids who want to get back to just being kids, and have no intention of letting this disease get the better of them. That's the purpose of the organization and why we're proud to work with them. We'd like to thank everyone who came to the event and made donations. Congratulations are also in order to everyone who won auction items.

Fiesta Bowl Parade 1/2/2010

On Saturday Morning January 2nd the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in their 2nd appearance at the Fiesta Bowl Parade in downtown Phoenix. The Fiesta Bowl Parade is the largest parade on this side of the country with an average spectator attendance of 100,000. The parade was broadcast live by local Channel 3 and online. We spent Friday night completing more work on the Ecto-AZ including adding the yellow storage tubes, ladder, and attaching the dish and sniffer. During the parade we alternated between using the car's actual siren and a looped music track of the Ecto siren, Ghostbusters theme, Ecto siren, and "Savin' The Day". We had 11 geared up members walking, our banner infront of us, and friends and family in the Ecto.

The parade is one of the funnest events we're in. The reaction we get from the crowds and the smiles on their faces is certainly something we won't soon forget. You'd almost swear you were on your way to fight a marshmallow man. This parade was especially memorable having so many of our new members walking and the Ecto behind us. We can't wait for next year.

Cardon's Children's Medical Center & Phoenix Children's Hospital Toy Deliveries 12/22/2009

On Tuesday December 22nd, 2009, the Arizona Ghostbusters visited two of the local major children's hospitals to deliver toys for the holidays. The hospitals visited were Cardon's Children's Medical Center and Phoenix Children's Hospital. These deliveries have long been in the making with our first collection of donations starting with our screening of "Ghostbusters" in November and our actual toy drive earlier in the month. Between the screening and the toy drive we were able to collect $450 in cash donations and over 300 toys. The toy drive and these deliveries benefitted families that are a part of the local Children's Cancer Network. The network assists families that have children undergoing cancer treatment with obtaining care services, transportation, offer encouragement and support, and help brighten their holidays. This was our first toy drive and delivery with the network and certainly won't be our last.

The first delivery of the day was at Cardon's Medical Center. There the toys were set up in a mini-theater and Real Ghostbuster episodes were played for the children coming in. The children at this hospital were still undergoing regular treatment and will unfortunately still be there during Christmas. The children came in with their parents and picked out toys and ate breakfast. Each toy we collected was marked with a sticker with our combined logo with the Network. Some children had seen the cartoon before and some hadn't, but they all enjoyed them. It was definitely a welcome break from their treatment schedules and we were told before we left the children were already enjoying their toys. The second delivery was at the Phoenix Children's Hospital outpatient wing where children and families regularly come for treatment. There the toys were set up in an examination room with the Ghostbusters soundtrack playing. After treatment the children came in and picked out their toys. The toys not used on these deliveries will be used on Christmas morning and will also be handed out throughout the year to new patients. We'd like to thank Cardon's Medical Center, Phoenix Children's Hospital, and the Children's Cancer Network for letting us help brighten the holidays of these families.

Children's Cancer Network Toy Drive 12/5/2009

On Saturday December 5th, 2009 was our first toy drive for the Children's Cancer Network at Spazdog Comics. The event featured the return of Sony's 28ft Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. The Ecto-AZ was on hand as well as our booth to collect toys and any additional cash donations. Any toys recieved was placed in the back of the Ecto. On hand was local comic artist Daniel Bradford selling his limited Stay-Puft vs. Robot 13 prints for donations to the drive. The store put all of their toys on sale and for each figure purchased there, the store would donate another one to the drive. We had 8 busters on hand, 4 in khaki suites and 4 in Ghostbusters 2 grey suits. We rotated members between roadside duty and staying with Puft and the Ecto for pictures. This event was also the first time Phil Truong  was with us as an official member and did a great job.

By the end of the day we collected 300 toys and $150 in cash donations from the Puft prints and our booth. With the recent screening raffle donations we had a combined total of $450 total to give the Children's Cancer Network. Each holiday season the network adopts families of children undergoing cancer treatment. The toys will be distributed between the families at their homes and at the local hospitals. The cash will help purchase addtional items the families need. The organization was overwhelmed by what we were able to collect for them and we are continuing to plan future events with them. We're proud we've been able to brighten the holidays for these families. We'd like to thank Spazdog Comics and Daniel Bradford for helping with this great event.

On Friday December 4th, 2009, the Arizona Ghostbusters set up their fundraising booth at the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Phoenix to collect funds for the Children's Cancer Network Toy Drive on December 5th. "Ghostbusters" Screening 11/21/2009

On Saturday November 21st, 2009 was our two screenings of the original "Ghostbusters" at MadCap Theaters in Tempe, AZ. MadCap is a local community non-profit theater dedicated to concerts and showcasing rare and classic films. It took alot of planning and help from sponsors to get the screenings together and heavily promoted.  The sponsors were able to get some great raffle items. The raffles at the screening will benefit the families of the local Children's Cancer Network and will help give them a great holiday season. We were able to get in contact with Sony pictures directly and recieved permission to use their promotional 28ft Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man balloon at the screening.

The big chore of the evening was setting up Stay-Puft. It took all of us to get him out of his case, spread out, zipped up, blowed up, and tied down. The Ecto-AZ was parked next to Puft. We set our raffle booth up inside to display the auction and raffle items. The soundtrack was played in the lobby as well and inside the theater we showed a slideshow of movie facts and behind the scenes pictures. Before the film started they showed the trailer and then the Ray Park Jr. music video. During the music video we tossed out Stay-Puft Marshmallow bags and Twinkies and got the audience to sing along with the song. After the video we handed out the raffle items.

The theater had a record turnout for a screening. Our raffle items raised $300 and the Real Ghostbusters toy lot fetched $100 in the silent auction. We had several kids come in costume as well as several local fans. It was a great night and we had an awesome response from the attendees. Alot of the parents were recalling the first time they saw the film and were then showing it to their children for the 1st time in the theater. We're already planning our next screening with the theater and can't wait for it.

MS Walk 11/7/2009

On Saturday November 7th, the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in their 3rd local MS Walk. The walk was 5 miles around the Phoenix Zoo, Botanical Gardens and surrounding park. This is the longest walk we participate in and completed it in full gear as always. We set our booth up to collect some last minute donations and handed out our custom MS Walk buttons. Our local 501st Stormtrooper Garrison was on hand as well celebrating their 10th year participating in the walk. Due to a power failure at the walk area, we were able to lend a helping hand by pulling the Ecto up to the starting line and allowing the walk organizers to use the cars built-in loudspeakers to make their announcements. We raised $1000 total in donations and is the most we've been able to raise for a single walk in along time. As a thanks to our participation over the years, our logo was placed on the back of the official walk shirts. It was a blast and as always we can't wait till next year's walk. We'd like to thank walk organizer Carol Czerniski for having us out again.
